About

On December 11, 2008, the David A. Beckerman Recreation Center opened at the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut (http://www.newhaven.edu/athletics/ChargerREC/). This 56,000 sq. ft. multipurpose recreation facility consists of 6,000 sq. ft. of dedicated fitness space featuring state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, 1/10th-mile suspended indoor jogging/walking track, two-court gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and badminton, an enclosed multi-activity court designed for a variety of activities including floor hockey and indoor soccer, two racquetball courts, two group exercise performance studios, juice bar, locker rooms and lounge spaces.

The newly established Department of Campus Recreation, managed by CENTERS, consists of three full-time staff, two graduate assistants and approximately 75 student employees.  Since the grand opening, the facility continues to exceed performance expectations.  The staff has done a remarkable job of successfully implementing newly developed programs in the areas of group exercise, intramural sports, and instructional and informal recreation.

"I am impressed with the level of services and industry knowledge CENTERS provides. Given our time constraints to open this facility, CENTERS effectively assembled a highly qualified staff to manage pre-opening responsibilities, counsel construction decisions, and initiate an operational budget. More importantly, CENTERS is taking all the essential steps to develop a fully functional department by assimilating to our campus culture and operating seamlessly within our University system."
