Campus Leadership
We attribute much of our success to our ability to attract and retain highly regarded professionals with a passion for collegiate recreation and student development. CENTERS employees are comprised predominantly of people who have earned advanced degrees and have worked within higher education. They have the experience, skill, and knowledge required to successfully integrate within a campus community and to develop all facets of a campus recreation department. CENTERS employees know how to manage facilities, design programs, and deliver services that often exceed best practices within the profession.
CENTERS places great importance on developing positive working relationships that produce effective collaborative efforts between other campus departments. At DePaul and Cleveland State Universities, the Physical Education departments are located inside or attached to the recreation centers, fostering greater inter-departmental collaboration. All lecture and activity classes are scheduled in the facilities during non-peak times, and some classes are even taught by CENTERS employees. Additionally, several academic internships and graduate assistantships are arranged and supervised by CENTERS staff. At the University of New Haven, the director serves as the campus advisor for an entire student class, while the assistant director serves as campus coordinator for summer conferences and camp programming. At DePaul University, several CENTERS staff members are guest lecturers for the Student Leadership Institute and team teach for the first-year student experience classes, called "Explore Chicago."
These examples are just a few ways CENTERS employees are eager to assume the responsibility for building a collaborative campus community.
